Al-Qalam Academy Spring Formal 2007, A
Success!
Al-Qalam Academy had its first ever Spring Formal on Friday, April 20th, 2007.
Alhamdulillah, it was a success and we had over 80 attendees at the event.
One of the purpose of the event was to promote bonds of sisterhood among our students and more importantly to make available a venue where our girls are given the opportunity to dress up, socialize and have fun in a halal environment.
We hope that we will have another opportunity to host such an event next year, insha'Allah.

Congratulations Team Al-Qalam @ M.I.S.T!
Over the weekend of March 30th - April 1st, 12 of our very own Al-Qalam students and 3 coaches made their way the University of Maryland @ College Park, MD to participate in the D.C. Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament.
MIST is a fun, educational, interactive program of competitions and workshops geared towards bringing high school students together from around the nation to develop leadership, communication, and other creative skills in order to develop a strong identity.
Alhamdulillah, we are happy to announce that Salwa Al-Husseini of 7th grade won 1st Place in the Tajweed Competition. Insha'Allah she will be participating in the National MIST Tournament that will be held in Washingtion, D.C. in the next coming months.
The rest of the team members worked hard in putting together their group work as well as individual tasks.
Insha'Allah, we hope to send more of our students to the MIST competitions next year and would appreciate it if our parents would support us in this endeavor.
Jazzak Allahu Khairan.

Alhamdulillah, this year's Community Night was a success. Al-Qalam Academy would like to give thanks to all those who took the time out to attend this event. A big thank you to our guest speakers, Brother Kamal El-Mekki and Brother AbdulRahman Chao. We know that without your help, this event would not have been a success. We would also like to thank our staff and our students who worked hard in putting this event together.
We pray that we will have the opportunity to come together again next year for yet another successful community night.
We hope to see you at our upcoming Community Bazaar on Saturday, May 5th, 2007.

Al-Qalam Academy Fundraising Iftaar 2006 a success!
Jazzak Allahu Khairan. May Allah reward all those who came out and support our event.
Principal's Remarks
Sister Zarmina Hotaki
This year our Ramadan
fundraiser was a success Alhumdulillah. We would like to thank the speakers,
volunteers and faculty for their dedication and hard work. We ended the
fundraiser with a final count of $50,000. InshaAllah we will use this money to
invest in new books and curriculum for classes, our science lab and inshaAllah
our Islamic Studies department. The staff of
Al-Qalam Academy would like to offer a special thanks to the guests who came out
to support our event and our school.
We understand that without
dedicated individuals like you, Islamic Schools cannot and will not be
successful. We must all understand that these Muslim children are our trusts and
we owe them an environment to grow and strengthen their deen. Allah (SWT) says:
Certainly successful are the
believers …they who to their trusts and their promises are attentive / And they
who carefully maintain their payers – those are the inheritors / Who will
inherit al-Firdaus wherein they will abide eternally.
May Allah make us from those who are
attentive to our trusts and promises so we can be successful.
